Natural latex mattresses are made from the sap of the rubber tree and are a pure natural product – free from chemicals and plastics. They are particularly point-elastic, adapt perfectly to the body and support a healthy sleeping posture – regardless of whether you sleep on your side, back or stomach. In tests, natural latex mattresses usually perform above average.
One disadvantage is their higher weight, which makes them slightly more difficult to turn. In addition, natural latex mattresses are more expensive to purchase than conventional foam mattresses – but with good care, they last many years longer.

With cold foam, the density primarily serves to choose the durability and dimensional stability, not the firmness. A higher density means that the foam is denser, does not wear out as quickly and retains its support strength for longer.

Density 30–39 kg/m³: Basic quality, durability approx. 2–4 years

Density 40–49 kg/m³: Good quality, durability approx. 5–7 years

Density from 50 kg/m³: High quality, durability approx. 8 to over 10 years.

With natural latex, the opposite is true: here, the density has a significant influence on the firmness. The higher the density (typically between 70 and 95 kg/m³), the denser and firmer the latex. High-quality natural latex remains elastic, durable and dimensionally stable for more than 10 years, regardless of its firmness.

Rigid roller slats can also be used for high-quality mattresses – it is important that they have at least 25 slats and that the spacing between them is no greater than 4 cm. This ensures that the mattress remains well ventilated and optimally supported. Stiftung Warentest also recommends rigid slatted frames as a solid foundation.

However, spring slatted frames can extend the durability of the mattress as they cushion some of the load. In addition, their adjustable firmness allows for an individually adjustable lying position.

For thinner basic mattresses, we recommend a spring slatted frame to noticeably increase lying comfort.

Durability depends on the material and care.

Our cold foam mattress Koje with a density of 50 kg/m³ is particularly dimensionally stable and lasts for around 8 to 10 years with normal use. After that, the foam may lose its elasticity and should be replaced for hygienic reasons.

Natural latex mattresses are significantly more durable: Due to their higher density (70–90 kg/m³), they often retain their elasticity and support for 10 to 15 years – and even longer with good care. Regular turning and sufficient ventilation further extend their service life.

Spring slatted frames can also increase the durability of mattresses because they take the strain off the mattress.
