      Mattress toppers can be useful if you wish to adjust the feel of your mattress. They can make a surface that feels too firm seem softer and can influence pressure distribution around the shoulders and hips.

      At the same time, they help to protect the mattress surface from wear and soiling.

      You should not use a topper if your mattress is already heavily sagging, uneven or has clearly lost its supportive properties.

      In such cases, a topper cannot restore the mattress’s fundamental characteristics.


      A topper is therefore primarily suitable for adjusting the feel of an intact mattress – not for remedying structural defects.

      Natural Latex Mattress Topper – An Additional Comfort Layer for Your Bed

      A topper adds an extra comfort layer to your mattress and can noticeably change the feel of your bed. It protects the mattress surface and can slightly adjust a surface that feels too firm. At ekomia, you can choose the Twisp Topper featuring a 4 cm core made of 100% natural latex in firmness level H3 (firm). The cover – as with our mattresses – is available in three options: organic cotton (kbA), organic cotton quilted with sheep’s wool (kbT), or Lyocell (TENCEL™).

      Why Use a Mattress Topper?

      A mattress topper is an approximately 4 cm high layer placed on top of your mattress. It can modify the feel of your mattress and create a more even surface. A topper is especially useful if you want to adjust the comfort of your existing mattress without replacing it.

      What Types of Toppers Are Available?

      • Natural Latex Topper: elastic, point-elastic response, dimensionally stable structure.
      • Cold Foam Topper: open-pored, varying firmness depending on density.
      • Memory Foam (Visco) Topper: responds to pressure and heat, with a more sinking feel.
      • Gel Topper: visco-like properties with modified pressure distribution.

      Natural latex toppers are based on natural rubber as a raw material. Natural latex is derived from the sap of the rubber tree and is characterized by its elastic material properties. The cover is available in organic cotton (kbA), organic cotton quilted with sheep’s wool (kbT), or Lyocell (TENCEL™). Depending on the cover option, different tactile and climate-related properties apply.

      What to Consider When Buying a Topper

      The key factors are material, firmness, and height. With its 4 cm core height, the Twisp Topper complements the mattress without fundamentally changing its core support characteristics. A removable cover makes cleaning easier.

      Topper for a Mattress That Feels Too Firm

      If your mattress feels too firm, a topper can adjust the surface and change the feel. The elastic natural latex core responds to pressure points such as shoulders or hips. However, a structurally damaged or heavily sagging mattress cannot be restored by adding a topper.

      Topper for Side Sleepers

      Side sleepers often choose a layer that allows shoulders and hips to sink in slightly while the rest of the body remains supported. Natural latex reacts immediately to changes in position and adapts to the body’s contours.

      When Should You Not Use a Topper?

      If a mattress is significantly worn out or has lost its structural support, a topper cannot restore these properties. In such cases, replacing the mattress is usually the more appropriate solution.
