    Natural latex mattresses are made primarily from the sap of the rubber tree. Different manufacturers use varying formulations and certified materials. Natural latex offers point elasticity, moulds to the body’s contours and can help ensure an ergonomic sleeping position – regardless of your preferred sleeping position.

    Due to its material structure, natural latex is considered particularly durable. When used correctly, a natural latex mattress can last for around 10 to 15 years. In independent product tests, natural latex models regularly achieve good ratings.

    One potential drawback is the higher weight, which makes the mattress slightly harder to turn. Furthermore, natural latex mattresses are often more expensive than many conventional foam mattresses. However, when used correctly, they can have a long lifespan.

    Longevity depends on the material and how well the mattress is looked after.

    Natural latex mattresses are considered to retain their shape well due to their elastic resilience. Depending on use and care, they can last for 10 to 15 years.

    Regular flipping, rotating and good ventilation can help to preserve the material’s properties for as long as possible.

    Natural Latex Mattresses – Sleeping Comfort Made from 100% Natural Latex

    Natural latex mattresses consist of elastic natural latex and offer high lying comfort as well as good breathability. They adapt to your body shape with point elasticity, are durable, and are tested for harmful substances according to recognised standards. Ideal for everyone who values natural materials.

    What is natural latex?

    Natural latex is created from the milky sap of the tropical rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis), which grows primarily in Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America. After scoring the tree bark, the sap – also called "latex milk" – is collected in bowls. The tree can be harvested regularly over decades without having to be felled. Thus, natural latex is considered a renewable raw material.

    During production, the fresh latex milk is filtered, mixed with natural minerals and soaps, and then foamed into moulds. Through heating (vulcanisation), a uniformly elastic foam block with an open-cell structure is created. This structure ensures good air circulation and a pleasantly dry sleeping climate. Depending on density and shaping, various 7-zone body support systems are realised, providing individual relief for shoulders, pelvis, and the lumbar spine.

    Since natural latex is biodegradable under suitable conditions and does not require petrochemical additives, it is considered a renewable raw material. High-quality natural latex mattresses carry seals of approval such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), QUL (Quality Association for Environmentally Compatible Latex Mattresses) or Moreganic (Rubber Farm Management Standard). FSC confirms the responsible management of the raw material sources. The QUL seal verifies that the mattress core consists of 100% natural latex and complies with strict limit values for harmful substances. Moreganic goes beyond this and monitors ecological cultivation methods as well as social standards along the entire supply chain.

    Properties of Natural Latex Mattresses

    A natural latex mattress offers ergonomic support for the entire body thanks to its elastic core. Due to its high point elasticity, the latex adapts exactly to the body contours without affecting surrounding areas – shoulders and pelvis can sink in gently, while the waist and lumbar area are stably supported. This keeps the spine in its natural position, regardless of the sleeping position.

    High-quality models feature a 7-zone system, which is divided into individual lying areas: head, shoulder, lumbar, pelvic, thigh, lower leg, and foot zones. These zones have different levels of firmness to specifically relieve or support individual body parts. Especially for people with back or neck pain, natural latex mattresses provide noticeable pressure relief and can contribute to a relaxed lying sensation.

    In addition to excellent body adaptation, natural latex impresses with its durable dimensional stability – even after many years, the foam returns to its original shape – meaning natural latex mattresses can achieve a long service life with proper use. The open-pored structure ensures natural ventilation and moisture regulation. This keeps the sleeping climate pleasantly dry and hygienic, even with heavier sweating.     What material properties does natural latex have?

    High-quality natural latex consists predominantly of the milky sap of the rubber tree and is manufactured without added plasticisers.     Is natural latex environmentally friendly?

In addition, the price is usually slightly higher due to the use of pure natural materials. In return, you benefit from above-average durability, permanent dimensional stability, and sleeping comfort that does not change even after many years.

    Why is 100% natural latex important?

    Many mattresses consist of mixtures of natural and synthetic latex – and may still carry the designation "natural latex mattress" if the proportion of natural latex only exceeds a certain minimum value. However, such semi-synthetic variants are less elastic and not fully biodegradable.

    Only mattresses with a core made of 100% pure natural latex offer high point elasticity and breathability. They contain no synthetic latex components and are therefore particularly durable and low-emission.

    What you should look for when buying natural latex mattresses

    Which slatted frame fits natural latex mattresses?

    Natural latex mattresses are very flexible and require a stable slatted frame with narrow slat spacing (max. 3–4 cm). Sprung models made of plywood with adjustable middle zones are ideal.

    For couples: One large or two mattresses?

    Those who share a bed often face the decision: one shared large mattress or two individual ones? A continuous mattress offers a uniform lying surface without a gap, but usually requires compromises regarding firmness level. Two separate mattresses, on the other hand, allow each person to choose exactly the right firmness and comfort zone – however, a small gap is created in the middle, which can be easily bridged with a large fitted sheet.

    The ideal solution is a partner mattress with two separate cores in a shared cover: both sleepers lie individually supported, without a bothersome "visitor's gap".

    Cover made of organic cotton, sheep's wool, or Lyocell?

    A washable cover made of organic cotton (kbA) is easy to care for, breathable, and often chosen by people with sensitivity to house dust. Cotton absorbs moisture well and can be cleaned at high temperatures – ideal for a hygienic, fresh sleeping sensation.

    Sheep's wool (kbT), on the other hand, has a temperature-balancing and moisture-regulating effect. It keeps you pleasantly warm in winter and ensures a dry, cool climate in summer. In addition, it possesses natural moisture-regulating properties and is largely self-cleaning – ideal for everyone who prefers renewable raw materials.

    Lyocell (TENCEL™) is a fibre based on cellulose and is combined with organic cotton. The cover is vegan, particularly moisture-regulating, and feels pleasantly smooth on the skin. Lyocell supports a balanced sleeping climate and can be washed at 40 °C.

    Which firmness level for natural latex mattresses?

    The suitable firmness level depends on your body weight and your sleeping position. As a rule of thumb: the higher the weight, the firmer the mattress should be.

    What does firmness level 1 (H1) mean?

    H1 stands for soft – suitable for a body weight up to about 60 kg or for persons who prefer a particularly gentle, yielding lying sensation.

    What does firmness level 2 (H2) mean?

Each mattress is manufactured in Germany and consists of carefully selected, certified raw materials that are tested for harmful substances according to recognised standards.

    The core of our natural latex mattresses consists of 100% natural latex, obtained from the milky sap of the rubber tree and certified according to FSC for responsible forestry. Additionally, the latex core is QUL-certified – the independent seal confirms that it is pure natural latex which is subject to strict tests for harmful substances. With the Moreganic certification, a transparent, socially responsible supply chain is furthermore confirmed. Natural latex is durable, elastic, and based on a renewable raw material.

    For the cover made of 100% organic cotton (kbA), we use fibres certified according to GOTS. Additionally, the fabric is tested for harmful substances according to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

    The sheep's wool (kbT) comes from controlled biological animal husbandry and is also certified according to GOTS and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 – for verified environmental standards and verified ingredients.

    Our Lyocell cover (TENCEL™) carries the EU Ecolabel for high environmental standards throughout the entire life cycle. Furthermore, the fibre is tested for harmful substances according to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class 1 and the wood used comes from responsibly managed, FSC® or PEFC certified sources.
