Babies and toddlers should sleep on a very firm mattress so that their bodies are well supported and their heads do not sink in too deeply – this is important for safety and healthy spinal development.
From around two years of age, the mattress can be slightly softer to better adapt to the body.
Compared to adults, children and teenagers usually prefer to sleep on a slightly firmer mattress (H3). However, as they get older, they develop different preferences – depending on their weight and personal comfort, a softer or firmer mattress may be more comfortable.
Reversible mattresses with a firm side and a softer side are ideal, as the firmness can be easily adjusted to suit the child's age and weight.
