    Solid wood family beds are like chameleons: they keep adapting to your situation. Just became a parent? Then go for an XXL bed. The kids start sleeping in their own room again?     More Peaceful Nights with Co-Sleeping

    Especially if you're still nursing your child at night, a family bed will help you get more sleep: no more getting up every time your baby needs you. Following the concept of co-sleeping, your child sleeps next to you and can be nursed immediately. This results in better sleep and a more balanced nursing routine.

    Another option is to place a crib or child’s bed directly next to the parents’ bed. Just like with a family bed, a side bed lets you flexibly organize your sleeping space. But a shared mattress offers even more room for cuddles.

    Depending on your needs, you can create large and comfy sleeping areas where everyone has enough space. Choose the size of your family bed based on how many people will be sleeping in it, with various bed widths to choose from.

    How Big Are Family Beds?

    The size of the bed greatly affects how comfortable your family feels. So which width makes sense? Here are the most common sizes:

    • 240x200 cm – Ideal for two adults and one child (2x 120 cm mattresses)
    • 270x200 cm – For four people using 3x 90 cm or 1x 180 cm + 1x 90 cm mattresses
    • 280x200 cm – For example, using 1x 140 cm + 1x 160 cm mattresses
    • 300x200 cm – Maximum space with 1x 180 cm + 1x 120 cm mattresses

    Many other combinations are also possible.

    If you’re co-sleeping with two kids, a minimum width of 240 cm is recommended. But your personal space preference matters most – so if you like it extra roomy, consider 270 cm wide family beds.

    Your choice of mattress should also match your family’s needs: use individual narrow mattresses or a combination of one large and one small mattress. This depends on whether you prefer different firmness levels or want to avoid the gap between two mattresses.

    What Else Should You Know?

    To make sure everyone sleeps comfortably, clarify a few points beforehand: Who sleeps where? What type of mattress suits you? If there’s no bed rail, adults should sleep on the outer sides. However, rails can also be added later with ease.

    If you’re sleeping with an infant in your bed, a firm mattress is a safe choice. It helps keep your baby in a stable position during the night and prevents parents from sinking in too deeply, reducing the risk of accidental rolling.

    Combine your family bed using widths from 90 to 200 cm. Once the children have their own beds, you can downsize or convert the large bed into two full-size beds using the “1-to-2” extension – like a double bed for the parents and a single bed for the child, or two 120 cm or 140 cm beds for children as they grow up.
