We plant future togehter

July 10, 2025
Eingepflanzter Sprößling aus der Pflanzaktion in Ruhla

Forests are more than just a green backdrop - they are our natural allies for a future worth living.Find out more about Tree Sponsors Germany and why we are part of you.

No Talking – Just Planting

Since 2021, Baumpaten Deutschland has been committed to transforming fallow forest areas across Germany into climate-resilient mixed woodlands. Instead of monocultures, site-appropriate and robust tree species are planted, helping to bind CO₂ over the long term, promote biodiversity, and create valuable habitats for wildlife. It’s a quiet yet powerful response to the tangible effects of climate change – and exactly what’s needed now more than ever.

More than 83,000 tree sponsorships have already been taken on, resulting in over 291,000 tons of CO₂ being sequestered. These are not abstract numbers, but real, measurable impact – visible in Thuringia, Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, and soon around Berlin and other regions. More than 2,900 committed sponsors are now part of this growing movement.

Why Is a Healthy Forest So Important?

A healthy forest is far more than a beautiful landscape – it is an essential part of a stable ecosystem. Forests store vast amounts of CO₂, making an active contribution to climate protection. At the same time, they regulate the water cycle, protect soil from erosion, and help prevent flooding. As rich habitats, they provide a home for countless animals, plants, and microorganisms, supporting biodiversity. Forests also improve air quality, cool their surroundings, and have been proven to benefit both our physical and mental health. Last but not least, they serve as natural shields against extreme weather events such as storms, droughts, and landslides – making our environment more resilient to the impacts of climate change.

Progress Meets Nature: The “Planting Drone” Project

Technology and nature conservation don’t have to be at odds — and Baumpaten Deutschland proves it with another exciting initiative: the “Planting Drones Germany” project. The goal is to rethink reforestation — making it more efficient, precise, and faster. Using custom-developed drones, seed capsules will be deployed with pinpoint accuracy, enabling the planting of large areas more quickly and effectively. This approach saves resources and time, while helping to establish even more forests — with high quality and sustainability.

Proud Tree Sponsor

At ekomia, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s part of our DNA. That’s why, as of May 2025, we’re proud to be a tree sponsor ourselves. One special aspect: we were able to choose exactly where our trees would be planted. We selected a site in Schönwalde, near Berlin, where in October 2025 a monoculture forest will be transformed into a climate-resilient mixed woodland. A tangible step toward fulfilling our responsibility.

Frequently asked questions

Here we have answered frequently asked questions from other users on the topic We plant future togehter

About one third of Germany is covered by forests,
this is about 118000 km²

In near-natural forests, trees of all ages and species appropriate to the site grow. Deadwood and dying trees provide a habitat for many species. Such forests differ significantly from plantations: they store a lot of CO₂ and are important for climate and species protection.
