      What is organic bedding?

      Organic bedding consists of fibres from controlled organic cultivation – without the use of synthetic pesticides and chemicals. At ekomia, these are 100% hemp, certified according to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, and 100% organic cotton (kbA), certified according to GOTS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100. The GOTS standard regulates the entire production process of organic cotton – from cultivation to processing.

      What bedding materials are available?

      Here we present some of the most popular materials with their advantages and disadvantages. Cotton, linen, and hemp are the most popular materials for bedding, alongside several others. The choice between materials depends on various factors and is ultimately a personal decision. All fabrics have their own merits and properties that make them suitable for different applications and needs.

      1. Cotton

      Cotton is one of the most commonly used materials for bedding. It is known for its softness, breathability, and durability. There are various types of cotton, such as Egyptian cotton, Pima cotton, or regular cotton. These materials are generally moisture-absorbent and suitable for year-round use. However, they can be somewhat prone to wrinkling.

      2. Linen

      Linen is a durable fabric obtained from the fibres of the flax plant. It is known for its strength and high breathability, making it ideal for hot and humid environments. Linen has a cooling effect on the skin and dries quickly, making it well-suited for summer. Another advantage of linen is its natural wrinkled look, which gives the fabric a rustic and casual charm.       What bedding sizes are available?

      There are countless sizes on the market for fitted sheets, duvet covers, or pillowcases. We show you the most common sizes for which you can easily find replacements and suitable duvets.

      • Comfort size duvet covers: 155x220 cm
      • Double bed size duvet covers: 200x200 cm, 240x200 cm
      • Standard sizes for pillowcases: 80x80 cm, 40x80 cm

      Choose the size of the duvet depending on whether you want one duvet per bed or two for a double bed. Ideally, duvets – either individually or combined – are larger than the mattress.

      Fitted sheets for family beds

      For large mattresses or family beds, we also offer our fitted sheets in extra-wide sizes: 240 x 200 cm and 270 x 200 cm. This allows you to enjoy consistently smooth sleeping surfaces without disruptive transitions. Our Álom model made of 100% hemp is OEKO-TEX Standard 100-certified, while Aisling made of 100% organic cotton additionally carries the GOTS certification – both are breathable, durable, and pleasantly soft.

      Our bedding made of 100% hemp and 100% organic cotton is tested for harmful substances and is breathable – a good choice for sensitive skin or allergy sufferers. The hemp series Álom carries the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 seal, and the organic cotton series Aisling is additionally certified according to GOTS – from cultivation to processing without synthetic pesticides and harmful chemicals.

      How do you care for organic bedding correctly so that it lasts a long time?

      Wash your bedding at 40 – 60 °C with a mild detergent without optical brighteners. If possible, avoid the dryer and let the bedding air dry – this protects the fibres. Light wrinkles are normal for natural fabrics and are part of the natural look. With gentle care, your bedding will remain dimensionally stable, colourfast, and soft for many years.

      What are the advantages of hemp bedding compared to cotton?

      Hemp is a robust and fast-growing natural fibre. It requires hardly any water and no synthetic pesticides. Hemp bedding is particularly breathable and temperature-balancing – ideal for a fresh, dry sleeping climate. Hemp is exceptionally durable and retains its structure and strength even after many washes.

      Aisling – Bedding Made from 100% Organic Cotton

      Aisling consists of 100% organic cotton from controlled organic cultivation and is both GOTS- and OEKO-TEX Standard 100-certified. The bedding is treated with a resource-efficient garment-dyeing process, where the finished sewn fabric is dyed – this saves water and energy and gives the fabric a vibrant, lightly washed structure. Available in Beige, Navy, and Rose – as fitted sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases.
