    Mattress toppers can be useful if you want to adjust the feel of your mattress. They can make a surface that is too firm feel softer and alter the distribution of pressure on your shoulders and hips.

    At the same time, they protect the mattress surface from wear and tear and stains.

    Depending on the material, a topper can also help regulate moisture and promote air circulation – for example, in models made from natural latex, organic cotton or sheep’s wool.

    You should not use a mattress topper if your mattress is already badly sagging, uneven or has lost a significant amount of its support. In such cases, a mattress topper cannot restore the mattress’s basic properties.

    A mattress topper is therefore primarily suitable for adjusting the comfort of an intact mattress – not for rectifying structural defects.

    Natural Latex Toppers – Additional Comfort Layer for Your Bed

    A topper complements your mattress with an additional comfort layer and can noticeably change the lying sensation. It protects the mattress surface and can adjust a surface that feels too firm. At ekomia, you can get the Topper Twisp with a 4 cm core made of 100% natural latex in firmness level H3 (firm). The cover – just like with our mattresses – is available in three variants: organic cotton (kbA), organic cotton quilted with sheep's wool (kbT) or Lyocell (TENCEL™).

    Why are there toppers for mattresses?

    A mattress topper is a layer approximately 4 cm high that is placed on top of the mattress. It can change the lying sensation and make the surface appear more even. A topper is particularly useful if you want to adjust the comfort of your existing mattress without replacing it.

    What types of toppers are available?

    • Natural Latex Topper: elastic, point-elastic reaction, dimensionally stable structure.
    • Cold Foam Topper: open-pored, varying firmness depending on density.
    • Memory Foam (Visco) Topper: reacts to pressure and heat, provides a more sinking-in sensation.
    • Gel Topper: visco-like properties with altered pressure distribution.

    Why toppers made from natural materials?

    Natural latex toppers are based on the raw material natural rubber. Natural latex is obtained from the milky sap of the rubber tree and is characterised by its elastic material properties. For the cover, variants made of organic cotton (kbA), organic cotton with sheep's wool (kbT) or Lyocell (TENCEL™) are available. Depending on the cover, different haptic and climatic properties result.

    What you should look for when buying a topper

    Important factors are material, firmness, and height. With a core height of 4 cm, the Topper Twisp complements the mattress without completely changing its fundamental supportive effect. A removable cover facilitates cleaning.

    Toppers for surfaces that are too firm

    If your mattress feels too firm, a topper can adjust the surface and change the lying sensation. The elastic natural latex core reacts to pressure points such as shoulders or hips. However, a topper cannot replace a structurally damaged or severely sagging mattress.

    Toppers for side sleepers

    Side sleepers often choose a layer that yields to the shoulders and hips point-specifically, while the rest of the body remains supported. Natural latex reacts immediately to changes in position and adapts to the body contour.

    When should I not use a topper?

    If a mattress is significantly sagging or has lost its fundamental support, a topper cannot restore these properties. In such cases, replacing the mattress is usually the more sensible solution.
