Commitment to Respect Human Rights
What We Stand For
ekomia is a small company. We do not have a compliance department or our own legal team. What we do have is a clear stance: everyone who comes into contact with ekomia – as an employee, a customer, a supplier – deserves fair, safe, and respectful conditions.
This page outlines our public commitment to respecting human rights, which we undertake as part of our B Corp recertification under V2.1 standards.
Our Commitment
ekomia GmbH is committed to respecting human rights – within our own organization, in our supply chain, and across all business relationships. This commitment is guided by three internationally recognized frameworks:
UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
We align ourselves with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP). In practice, this means we recognize our corporate responsibility to identify, prevent, mitigate, and – where necessary – remedy actual and potential adverse impacts on human rights.
Universal Declaration of Human Rights
We commit to respecting the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). These include, among others, the right to just and favorable conditions of work, equal pay without discrimination, freedom of association, and the protection of privacy.
ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
We commit to upholding the five fundamental labor standards of the International Labour Organization (ILO):
- Freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining
- The elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labor (including modern slavery)
- The effective abolition of child labor
- The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation
- A safe and healthy working environment
Scope of Application
This commitment applies to all areas of our operations: to our team in Berlin, to our suppliers and manufacturers within the EU, and to our customers. It is assessed as part of our annual sustainability review.
Responsibility
Responsibility for implementation lies with both managing directors. ekomia is jointly managed by Rolf and Jekaterina Piechura, each holding 50% of the shares. Decisions are made jointly – and this topic is no exception.
Questions and Feedback
