Finding the right youth mattress - this is how it works
There is no question about it: mattress and sleep quality are closely related. Even at a young age, a coherent overall concept of slatted frame, mattress and bed is important. But how do you find the right mattress for young people?
What is special about a youth mattress?
The smaller and lightest the sleeper, the firmer the mattress should be. The spine of children and adolescents is not yet fully formed. A firm sleeping surface provides the right support.
Youth mattresses therefore have a higher degree of firmness, which provides extra comfort. Mattresses for young people are often thinner. With a length of 200 cm, they also already fit into "real" beds.
But when does it make sense to switch to a bed with 2 metres length? Generally speaking, this is possible from the time when the child no longer needs a cot. After the cot, some parents opt for a so-called junior bed with a length of only 1.40 metres as an interim solution. Others choose a bed with standard dimensions (90 x 200, 120 x 200 or 140 x 200 cm).
How to find the right mattress for your child
If you are looking for a children's and youth mattress for your offspring, you should ask the following questions. How big is the bed? And more importantly, how old, tall and heavy is your child?
Not every child or teenager needs a special, harder mattress. Especially not if their stature is similar to that of an adult. In this case, natural latex mattresses, which are designed for a higher body weight, may be an alternative.

Twisp Basic – vollökologische Jugendmatratze aus Naturlatex
Our Twisp Basic is a shape-retaining youth mattress that has a core made of natural latex. This is a natural raw material obtained from the milky sap of the rubber plant. The removable cover is made of organic cotton. You can wash it regularly at up to 60°.
The mattress is thin and durable, but should not be overloaded. We recommend that young people over a body weight of 60 kilogram prefer to use an "adult mattress". Twisp is compatible with any of our Scandinavian beds.
Koje Basic - cold foam mattress for the youth room
The Koje Basic youth mattress has a cold foam core and a cover made of recycled material that has been tested for harmful substances. It is made from over 100 recycled PET bottles. As the mattress is slightly harder, you can also use it as a guest mattress for adults.
