The size of your wardrobe depends on how much and which clothes you want to store in it. Do you have little ironing and mainly shirts, trousers and jumpers that can be stored rolled up à la Marie Kondo?
Then you can benefit from a dresser with compartments and drawers. Compactly rolled up, you can store your clothes in a small space. A clothes rail is necessary if you want to hang up shirts, blouses and fine clothes without creasing them.
Space, as much as you need
There is no rule of thumb for the right closet size. Only guidelines: While couples can manage well with a width of 150 cm, for more people or a larger collection of clothes you should prefer a width of 200 cm or more. For a small number of possessions in a single household, a narrow wardrobe with a width of 100 cm is often sufficient.
How big the wardrobe can be also depends on the size of the room. Large furniture can be oppressive in narrow or low rooms. Does your bedroom have a lot of sloping walls? Then you should choose the furnishings of your solid wood bedroom carefully - and, for example, choose a bedroom wardrobe or dresser that is rather low. If, on the other hand, the wardrobe covers a wall completely, it looks like part of the room and blends in well.
In small rooms, every centimetre needs to be used well: With a few pieces of furniture you can also fill the space under windows and light switches.
